Many survivors of childhood or young adult/adolescent cancer do not have serious long-term side effects. However, many have small health concerns that need review and careful consideration over the years. Equally, some side effects can occur many, many years after therapy so it is important to stay engaged and on the look-out.
Some of the more common, or important side effects that will be reviewed as part of survivorship care include
- Heart health
- Pulmonary (lung) health
- Bone health (osteoporosis, avascular necrosis)
- Fertility, premature menopause and sexual dysfunction
- Thyroid function
- Secondary cancers that arise as a result of treatment
- Mental health concerns including anxiety, depression, low mood
In addition, survivorship care often involves reviewing your social setup, education and career and ensuring you are maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle.
At Treat Unique we will be hoping to empower you to look after your health and well-being as best you can, tailoring an approach to follow up that is both evidence based and suitable for you.
